Default 1966 Engine Compartment Blackout Finish

Repainting the underside of my hood on my sm block 66'. The original blackout on the fender walls etc. is in good shape so I am trying to match this paint close as possible. This paint has a SLIGHT sheen (gloss) NOT a flat black finish the NCRS 66 Judging Guide suggests. C2 Archives suggests using low gloss or satin. Shot it with archives suggested Rustoliem satin and it definitely a semigloss finish NOT the expected lower gloss (satin) finish. Would REALLY appreciate advice on product ideas for a close matchup because trying to match product finish from pictures and spray can color/finish caps, reading countless articles and matching by experimenting isn't working. What product and gloss should I try? THANKS

If you can find some Krylon 1413 semi flat black lacquer it usually works well. After that maybe SEM black semi flat trim paint or Eastwood underhood black. You may need to experiment with a couple different ones to find a match and something that sprays well in thin coats and doesn't look thick with orange peel.

Yes Rustoleum Satin gets too glossy, especially the 2nd coat if it's "wet".

I've found Duplicolor "Low Gloss Black" a very good match as well.
