Default 62 Restomod

Have been working on this project for 2 years. Just got the motor running in the car for the first time. It sounds good with the Allan's Stainless sidepipe exhaust. Pipes are hidden behind the rockers and wrapped with exhaust wrap for heat purposes. See pics. Anyone else try this set-up before?

I haven't seen pipes done that way around here but a friend who is original owner on this 62 has his on the outside.

The picture is from three years ago and the car hasn't been started since 1975.

Here are a few more pictures of my build. Build is being done at William's Coevette Shop, in Sumter SC. Great people there, and William and Bill have forgotten more about vetted than I will ever know!

Personally, not to impressed with the way they look mounted on the outside like that, but hey, it's not my ride. The only one that needs to like them is the owner!!!

looks great, that dash is very nice touch. My experience with the wrap is it trashes the exhaust makes it flake apart unless you used stainless. I think its because the pipes cant reject the heat. Maybe jet hot the pipes and make heatshields and insulation with a nice air gap.

My exhaust is stainless; so far no issues, but have not run it much. Here are some more pic's of

the progress on my resto-mod.

I really like how you have it carpeted around the glove box and the soft top well and the speakers mounted where they are. Keep us posted on how the clearance is on the soft top when in the down position.

Love the L88 Hood on the '62, along with the Pipes behind the Rockers.
I had the same Hood on my '62, 40 years ago....
Keep us informed of your Progress

I'm just starting a 62 resto and was wondering what headers and steering column you used.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Larry

Hooker "block hugger" headers, and Ididit steering column.

I am using a tube chasis from Jamison's Corvettes in Charleston, SC. The steering column is a "Ididit" brand, but I am not sure of the exact length; I also bought it through Jamison's since they have done many C1 restomods and knew what I would need.

Thought about possible clearance issues with soft top, but the carpet and padding don't really take a lot of depth away in the soft top well. Won't know for sure until it is installed. Anyway, I'll deal with that when it rears its ugly head; just another possible speedbump to overcome!! BTW, those speakers in the back wall of the soft top well combined with matching speakers in the kickpanels and the 10 inch sub sound really good. A must if you want to crank tunes with the top down and actually hear anything.

That is going to be a mighty fine Corvette when it's done. The workmanship looks fantastic.

Live well,
