What kind of exhaust is this?
My 1966 came with them. No mufflers just these pipes. They sound great but I cannot find any information on what type of exhaust it is or where they came from.
I found this stamped on them. IMCO 200 alum 30871 and 17523

Many years back you could buy those mufflers from Walker and fit them into any exhaust system. They came is different lengths. Don't know if they still make them. Allen's Exhaust might carry them since the basic body is what makes up side exhaust pipes. Dennis

The C2 design and "side pipe look" does go together very well. Many years ago, the racers didn't want them due to 4-tube header connection issues and loss of HP. Oh well.............today they are mostly on garage/trailer queens anyway.........HP doesn't matter anymore.

I agree they look awesome but after riding in dads 67 coupe with them for a 50 mile ride with the windows up. I remembered how much I hate them

No dads car has factory side pipes. I love the sound in town and sitting at idle. Get the car out on the open road at a constant RPM and it's just a drone that's annoying as hell

Undercar chambered exhaust was a factory option in 1969 on SS Chevelles and Z28s (not sure about SS Camaros). I still have memories in college of watching a new SS 396 Chevelle with chambered exhaust hammering the throttle hard while leaving a stop sign and running through 1st and 2nd gear. They sounded nice.

I believe Chevrolet ultimately had a "cease and desist" order against them from local/area/state police to stop making this option available due to the noise issues.

Boy - I don't remember for sure. I think you may be right - I don't think they even lasted until the end of 1969 model year. But they were probably still available over the GM counter for some time allegedly for off-road use. They sure sounded good while they lasted.

A dual exhaust system was standard; however, during a brief window, the NC8 chambered exhaust system--essentially free-flowing chambered pipes in lieu of standard mufflers--was standard on Z/28; it was later changed to an option. Only 1,526 systems were sold before the option was dropped due to noise ordinance concerns.

From the July 2015 issue of Hemming's Motor News on the 1969 Z/28 Camaro:

They weren't as loud a Cherry bomb mufflers and unless the driver tried himself, they weren't really loud at all.
My '69 Z 28 came with a standard muffler system. In the late '70's, I bought a complete set of chambered pipes from Willcox for my car plus a spare set so they were still available then.

Well, now that's interesting. I wonder what 64 cars they were supposedly available on as OEM?? I wonder if Walker was referring to the 65 introduction of side exhaust on the Corvette or a system on the Impala or Chevelle??? But it says 64 models.
Or maybe someone other than Chevrolet. Kind of seems that the Olds 442 might have had a chambered exhaust system at one time.
