Thanks Frank! I have to agree with you on those Doc Rebuild pictorial diagrams. Maybe I'll get the '65 a set for Christmas.

Default First Power Up

YES. It's taken way too long but with family things settled down I can now get focused back on the car. This is the configuration for the first power up. I checked the ohms on every circuit which turned out to be a good idea since I had two pink wires on the ignition switch reversed. The fuel and temp gauges also cause an unexpected 62 ohms to ground reading but that's explainable after checking the wiring diagram closely.

After I get the 609 water pump, ribbed hoses, and the cut down upper motor mount cushion installed I'll get back to the electrical.

I know this is an old post...but anyone have some pictures of what the wiring looks like under the dash...how it routes from one side to the other? I'm referring to a 56-62.

The assembly manual works pretty well for helping you route the wires.

This is pretty hard to see... but I'm holding the courtesy light wire with a ground. Does this harness run between the fiberglass and the metal support? And where does this ground connect to?
In my assembly manual it's really not clear.

LOL! Possibly so, but it was the only resource I had when I did the '62 a few months ago.

But again, it was a manual for the '62 which may/must be better then what you're dealing with.

Well....when it comes to how the wires route, some diagrans are pretty good, but in other area's it's hard to see what the heck is drawn.

Hello Pat,

I did the same job on my 1961 and now I am also at the point to convert the standard engine harness over to single point alternator with MSD ignition system.

Do you have any advice on what I have to change on the engine harness? The very long red wire goes to the one point alternator? Also witch wires are connected to the regulator... and solenoid(Starter)?

There is a red wire on the MSD meant to go on the ignition switch, on witch wire it is attached?

Any help, images or pdf will be very welcome

Thank you,
Ferry

Due to circumstances I haven't been able to focus hardly any time on the rewire but things are better now. I've looked at the dash underside in a number of late C1s and there isn't anyone that looks factory so far. I have a factory AIM and even it's a little short on specifics. I'm doing some rerouting to get the engine wiring and tach cable right up underneath the windshield mounting holes - I made my own J clips. Lots of cars have the wiring and tach cable so close to the windshield wiper cable it's scary since this looks like a really good "saw".

It's time well spent to be sure all the wiring is well supported and properly routed to allow clearance from moving items. Besides the wiper cables, the cowl vent is a biggie. The handle and related mechanism have a large range of motion under there and can easily catch unsecured and misrouted wires.

I have completed many autowire kits and this is the first time I used a "factory harness"
other than the price this job was one of the easiest and fastest I have ever completed
Thanks for the PDF it was nice to have a colored pic for a reference
........now where does the light on the side of lighter get its power?
