Default Question of escutcheon plate behind door locks

OK Guys,

Trying to put in my door locks on the '62.

I have a thin gasket behind the escutcheon plate behind the key lock. Is that supposed to be there?

For the life of me I cannot get the pressure clip in place with the gasket there.

I looked at the assembly manual, and it shows gaskets behind the door handle itself, but it doesn't show anything for the key lock.

Thanks,

Pat

There are NO GASKETS behind the door lock cylinder escutcheon - that's why they don't show in the Assembly Manual; pitch the gaskets and you'll be able to install the retainer clips.

Amazing! They went right on!

The first time they have worked in over 22 years!

Thanks again John,

Pat

The same thing goes for the trunk lock; I just went through this with intallation of the trunk lock on my 62. ditched the gasket and the locking clip went right on!

Yes SnakeQ,

Again, I went to the assembly manual and it didn't show a gasket on the trunk key lock, just like it didn't show one for the door locks.

I put in the rear trunk key lock yesterday. Wasn't a whole lot of fun trying to get to the clip, but I did finally get it in place.
