Some of those photos are the among those I use for reference to load the luggage rack on my Fawn Beige '62. I usually display that issue of Corvette News alongside the car.

I hardly saw any of the shows when they originally aired. Watching now, I'm amazed at how complex and engaging many of the story lines are, like one-hour movies.
I've noticed a C1 with what appear to be real wire wheels in several episodes. Can someone freeze-frame to confirm my suspicion that the knock-offs are two-prong? That would confirm the rumor that Chevy offered them as a Corvette option or dealer parts department accessory.
That car also has WIDE whitewalls, weird throwback on a '62. You would think sponsor and free car provider Chevrolet would have smacked that down!

I believe the first season featured wire wheels on the 61 (with wide whites) until Tod (Martin Milner) sells them for a crap game. Someone here on the forum has Dayton wire wheels from the era; not sure GM ever offered wire wheels/knock offs for C1's. The 62 was used for the second season and sported factory wheels/hubcaps.

Route 66
Hi guys
Shortly after I purchased my C2 I noticed two signatures on my passenger side sun visor. One was Martin Milner star of Route 66 and the other was Michael Wallis. Wallis is a journalist/Historian who authored many books on the Midwest one of them was "Route 66: The Mother Road". It was signed Sept 25,2004 at the Route 66 Festival in Springfield, Illinois.

Anyone remember the remake of this series in 1993? There were only four episodes and I have them on VHS which is hard to find. I also read they are planning to make a sequel of this series in the near future.

Sub006,
Go to YouTube and watch the episode called Layout at Glen Canyon (or something close to that) in it you'll see the Vette with Two Prong wire wheels, it's in the scene where they pick up the models at the airport in the beginning. Also throughout the episode you' lol see the wheels pretty clearly

Still one of my favorite shows; the writing, acting and direction were great if a bit uneven in later seasons.

That metal rack appears to have three or four WOOD cross-boards, very distinctive and perhaps easy to identify for an exact re-creation of the '62 Route 66 cars. Chevy always loaned TWO 'Vettes (just in case!) for each year's production.

You have good eyes - in the TV series, the luggage rack does indeed have wood slats. I couldn't find one like that, and although I suppose I could add them, the luggage load covers most of them anyway. The entire TV series is available in a boxed DVD set, which the wife bought me for Christmas a while back. Haven't gotten around to watching them all yet, though.

You can't tell, but the color is Jewel blue.
This is also one the very few times the top is raised and it rained during 1961 (according to the show!)

Here is an image from the first season with the 61 featuring wide whites and the famous wire wheels. Tod later replaces them for factory wheels that season.

This pic was shot during filiming of a Route 66 episode at Marineland of the Pacific, about ten minutes from my house in Palos Verdes Estates. Marineland is long gone, after many decades replaced by the ritzy Terranea resort. Donald Trump's golf course with ocean views from all 18 holes is nearby. The annual Palos Verdes Concours is held on The Donald's greens.
AIR Buster Keaton was in that episode. Bet Maharis got a xcreamin' deal on that FI '62. He was quoted in a Corvette News article as saying, "It is a bomb. I love it."

Thanks for the replies guys. I remember back in the early 60's when I was about 10 I got a tan '62 plastic 1/25 model, no luggage rack, and it had one of those friction motors in it. I usually kept good care of my things since I didn't have that much, but I don't know whatever happened to that model and I can't seem to find one similar to replace it.
