I always feel like they are such fragile cars when I'm driving them, but they really treated them like the cars that they were. In one of those first episodes they use the car axle for a pully for a pump or something?

Whenever I drive my '62, I hear that familiar theme music playing . . .
I do have the entire Route 66 TV series on DVD . . . Need to do some binge watching sometime. I am running with the hardtop on lately, but I do have the rear luggage rack and some vintage suitcases. When it's set up right, it's a twin to the TV car. All I need is a wing man, and we're off!

I use suction cup mounts on the four legs to easily mount and dismount it for shows without drilling the deck lid. It stays on there pretty damned well and gives the car the correct "Route 66" period look, especially with similar-looking period suitcases and a rolled-up sleeping bag tied onto it. There are plenty of reference photos of the actual Route 66 car so that I can get the appearance of the "load" correct. Spectators at the car shows seem to get a huge kick out of it. As for photos, at the moment the car is safely tucked away for the brutal Central New York winter which must inevitably arrive soon (we had light dusting of snow this morning), at which time we will be off to our St. Petersburg, Florida place until Spring.

Damn Paul (capevettes), I'm envious!!! Nice cars, and nice garage!
Glad to see you're retired from the PD. It's a good time to be away from that stuff!
Also,
That fawn beige grows on me! Beautiful car!
Thinking how that would look on the Nomad....

I watched all the episodes, 'back in the day', and watched the DVD set that I have, and was surprised to see that the show contained so much drama. All I tended to remember were the Corvettes, which is what drove me to get the 58.

Thanks Pat I definitely retired at the right time. Not as much respect for the police now. Everyone's got a camera on them. Don't miss it a bit.

I hear you. I retired from the Syracuse Fire Department after 40 years of service in 2013, just not the same job anymore. All shootings and drug addicts needing EMS. I miss the guys, but not the job. Stay safe & well, enjoy your retirement - remember living well is the best revenge!

My brother's got 3 weeks left from Richmond PD! Will be glad to see him get out as well!
Sorry Sonny! Back to the Route 66 episodes!

great cars great garage
Capevettes you have an awesome garage. What size is it?
Looks like you have a massive support beam in the middle.
I didn't mention your great cars because that is a given.

Quite a few guest stars in that series over the years, and actually some pretty decent story lines. Also, the Mako Shark I show car also made a guest appearance. But who are we kidding, we watched it to see the Corvette!

Loved that TV series. Thought I'd put up a few pics I found of the Route 66 Vette.
The last pic taken in 2010 is one of the actual Corvettes used in the filming.
*On a sad note I just found out Martin Milner (Todd Stiles) died in Sept. at age 83.
