I've added factory side pipes to several Sting Rays because I wanted to. So, do what you want to do. As a suggestion, bend the rocker molding supports inward with a hammer, rather then cut them off as I once did. This will make it much easier to put the car back to its present condition if you get tired of the side pipes.

If you must add side exhaust, at least leave the fender tabs and rocker molding brackets in place so the mod can be reversed without too much trouble if you or a next owner decides to do so.

The rocker molding brackets can probably be bent inward enough to clear instead of sawing them off. I've never done it though but I'm sure someone here can tell us it that's possible.

I've owned three c2s, tow 427 roadsters and a 327 roadster. The 427 cars both had side exhaust and I did not find them offensively loud. I drove all the cars regularly, mostly when the weather was such that the tops were down.

That being said, the 327 car had under car exhaust. It, too, was fairly loud, but the heat level was a big difference, as well. Do what trips your trigger, OP. The side exhaust looks killer on a Stingray, 63 - 67.

I have a Cobra with side pipes and the sound is fabulous. I love it! However, ever since I put it on the road (4years ago) I try to lower the decibels. Did some mods initially, then anther one, and next year (when my rear exhaust 64 is ready...) I'll do some more. It's just too intrusive in my ears for anything longer than 15 minutes. It all depends on your ears, make sure you test this out if you plan to do longer trips.
This may sound stupid, but installing the pipe covers and some fake tips is all you need if the looks are what you'r after

What the heck I'll jump in. Your car is almost exactly like mine. Enjoy your side exhausts. No, I do not prefer them. No I don't prefer a 67 BB hood. Who cares? As someone said most of these cars are not truly rare. It can be changed back. We have lots of original cars and documentation on "how stuff was."

It's a car. Make it your own and enjoy it.

Personally, undercar exhaust make the "look" lean like I want a corvette to seem, but I have excellent friends here who feel the opposite.

Give the guy a break! Maybe the reason some people are "low posters" is because others just look for a reason to jump all over them when they do post. Why does it matter how many times someone posts? Does your post count for more, just because you post more often? I don't think so, especially when the OP was asking for opinions to help him make a decision.

What a divisive post.... almost sure to pit the aftermarket sidepipe guys against the as-ordered crowd.

The OP asked for opinions though, and just remember, these are all opinions....

To me, it sounds like you never really bought the car you wanted.... If you were looking for a Survivor... you found it. If you wanted a side pipe car, IMO, you should have kept looking until you found it.

That being said, how do you argue with a car owner against him doing what he wants with his OWN car?

If you had enough money, you could buy the Mona Lisa, and have her changed to a Blonde. "Hey, I like Blondes better"! There may be a few folks that would say you are destroying valuable art/history, but When, its your painting, do with it what you like!

As an aside, the N11 option is probably one of the most under-rated upgrades in this situation.

I understand why he doesn't like to drive it. And prefers his other 67 with out the back exhaust. Will I or dad ever put his Othe car back. I doubt it To much money tied up in converting it back. Plus we had to do that to his convertible. It's not a fun job to remove side pipes to put under car exhaust back on.
I love the look, but too many have regretted the noise factor (drone) on steady-speed cruises; plus on the early cars that have been converted to the lake pipes the rocker molding hangers are usually cut off making restoring the car back someday (if desired) a PITA. Not telling the OP not to do what he wants - but he needs to realize that going this route is a commitment so he needs to be ready for the downsides. And my stock cars are driven like a stole them - a lot....so let's dispel that myth

Maybe they have a life beyond reading and posting every day. I jump in when I feel I can help someone. It doesn't matter to me if anyone agrees what I have to say, every one has an opinion and not every one needs to agree. Do you really think that because you post more often your posts carry more weight? A little narcissistic, don't you think?

It's amazing that some people think that how often they post or how often they drive their car makes their OPINION of what the OP should do with HIS car more important than others.

He should do what makes HIM happy, not what others think is more appropriate. As the words from the old Ricky Nelson song said: "You can't please everyone, so you gotta please yourself!"

If some think that the car should be preserved as is, perhaps they should (should have?) bought it themselves..........

this begs the question then, why come on the forum and ask what you should do? If you want pipes, what possible difference does it make what any of us say you should or should not do? Put them on your car and enjoy the noise.
bye bye

Pretty silly comment.
You seem to have missed the point of my post, which that was that some responders seem to think that their opinions are more important than those of others, based on some criteria about them selves that they contrive.

My comment was not intended to be referring to the OP per se.

Pretty sure the value of this thread ended awhile ago.

OP, you said you were going to post photos on this thread. Please start a new thread on the topic and maybe we can keep it open.
