Harbor Freight deal on IR temp guns
For those of you who don't yet have an infrared temp gun, HF is running a 3 day special (Nov 27/28/29) for $19.99.
I bought one at $29.99 a while back..........it works great!

.............as long as supplies last. No rain checks.

It's better to have a cheap IR thermometer than no IR thermometer. But for greater accuracy, consider springing for a higher-quality unit.

I've found that the cheapies work well for the rough temp readings I take on carbs, exhaust manifolds and thermostat housings.... I think I've picked up 2-3 in recent years and given some away...

The more high-end units also tend to offer a much wider temperature range, which can be useful in some situations, as well as a host of other features.
I use the Etekcity Lasergrip 630. It has a lot of very nice features, including:
> Dual-laser target ranging (helps with getting the measuring distance right)
> Wide temperature range of -58 to 1076*F (-50 to 580*C)
> Accuracy of +/- 2%
> Narrow 16:1 distance-spot ratio (allows you to measure accurately from a greater distance than lower ratio units)
> Switchable readout (*F or *C)
> Displays the current temp, plus maximum, minimum, average and difference of measured temperatures
> Data hold function saves the last reading
> Adjustable emissivity (for greater accuracy)
> Automatic shutoff after 15 seconds of non-use (saves battery)
> Low-battery indicator
> Backlit display (can be turned on/off)
I bought mine from Amazon. It's a very nice tool. They're currently offering it for $35.99:
A cheapie is better than none, but the higher-end units have come down in price to the point where I see no need to compromise on quality and features. It all depends on how you define value. All things for all people...
