Camera and mounting suggestions wanted.
All of a sudden I have the urge to take some pictures from the car while making way. The various TV car shows seem to accomplish this quite easily with cameras mounted inside the driving compartment and attached outside the car, It is these views rather than a dash cam picture that I would be trying to replicate. If any of you have gone this route, I would appreciate learning what model of camera and type of mounting you have found to be most successful. Christmas is still a month away so I still have some time to make a final decision. Thanks.

Follow link in my thread if it helps. All shot with go pro. Used suction cup with zip ties used as track-mandated safety strap each time I put it on.

Anyway, I've been doing this for years, I'm a licensed driving instructor.
Go Pros are great. But you can get great HD videos for way less money. This was shot with my Midland HD camera, it comes with various mounts including a suction cup for $99 shipped.
It doesn't have an LCD screen for aiming but is still easy to aim.
It's very small compared to the Go Pro.
If you are looking for fun angles like a bumper cam or on the side of the car, that's fine.
If you're looking for action or to evaluate your driving, the vid should show the driver's head, hands, etc.
This is me instructing my buddy in his 65 Mustang fastback, fairly stock with a 425 horse 351:
The camers is mounted to the rollbar but could also have been suction cupped to the rear window. Skip the first 4 minutes.

Go Pro is without a doubt the best. On our Canada/US trip, I wasn't hesitant to mount it on any part of the car, including the front right splitter end, inches from the roadway. This report will show you about 3-4 different locations throughout in the included videos.
Have you a portable phone or Ipad? GoPro has an App that gives you complete control from within the car. This was very handy in setting up the camera just right.

Here's a vid with my camera suction cup mounted to the hatch glass.
My 92 C4 showing an advanced student where to tweek his racing lines.
I'm really satisfied with this cheapo camera.
