I've used Intercity several times. They couldn't have been better. Each time, I was allowed to drive my car onto the truck. I believe they offer a discount to forum members. DO NOT go through a broker.

I was gonna say!

You can put it on the ferry to Bridgeport and drive it up the Merit Parkway (cars only). The weather is right!

Don't forget the Orient Point to New London ferry; runs a full schedule every day except Christmas.

Another vote for Intercity. They treat the car like it was their own and you can stay in phone contact with the driver.

The ferry from Orient Point to New London is an option as long as they aren't squeezing the cars in there like they used to. Years ago I put a nice 70 Chevelle SS on that ferry and came away with two big door nicks. They were squeezing them in like sardines.

Never dealt with Intercity but a number of others I found difficult in regards to pickup and drop off dates. One of the reasons I bought a car hauler trailer. Use the trailer to haul a lot of non car stuff as well- furniture, building supplies, etc. I have become more popular with some of my car buddies as well.

If you haven't already done so, join the New England chapter of NCRS. You will develop great contacts and they may have some thoughts. If you have a truck, rental at UHaul may get you a trailer to do the job. I like Intercity and I think that they have a home base in Warren, Mass. so are always heading your way. Go on the web site of NCRS-NE and go to the end where there are some vendors including transporters. As said before, do not use a broker!

OP/NL ferry is now quite civilized with lots of room. Quite unlike the '50s and early '60s when the fleet included several converted LSTs. Space was indeed at a premium back then and I remember more than one occasion when I drove my '59 Corvette into the back of an empty tractor-trailer in order to make the crossing and not have to wait for the next boat. The tractor-trailers were most often empty on their return to Long Island having earlier in the day hauled farm produce to New England markets, but over the years I have taken the enclosed ride in both directions. I can only imagine the perceived liability issues that would preclude such a cooperative arrangement today.

I've used Horseless Carriage several times and they do a great job. And the prices I've gotten from them are competitive. They are used to moving classic cars, and if you are moving just one car, they have smaller trucks, not just the big 18-wheelers. Worth giving them a call.
