wiper transmission: paint or not?
Are these originally painted or not? If so, in body color or in black?

They get a plastic cone in the shape of the wiper transmission to cover and protect it from corrosion....
:::EDIT:::
Corvette Central Part #652056...
To get the small end over the transmission, heat it with your wife's hair dry..slip it into groove just below the nurling where the wiper attaches...

I am not sure when the boot started but I think it was 64 or 65 so double check to be sure it's needed. If no boot the part gets blackout on the outside cowl area.

Per Noland's original survey, the boot started sporadically in mid-November 1965, and was found on both sides 100% in late December (1966 model year production).
