Default C2 Cowl Grills

The fitment on my 63 coupe cowl grills is rather poor, is this a common issue?

I'm thinking of adjusting /modifying them to achieve the fit I'm looking for. What have others done?

Thanks

Unless the grilles have been damaged (both?), they are relatively static, given that they are metal and would think there are issues with the fiberglass top surround. Has the car been involved in a major front end collision?

No accident however in the corner where the grill meets the fender is 1/8 lip see picture
