Default Original delivering dealer of a Corvette

Is it possible to know the original dealer where a Corvette was sold if the VIN is provided. I'd love to know where my 56 was first delivered. I traced it to CA in 68 and that's as far back as I have been able to trace it.
When I bought it in 73, the original engine, transmission and rearend were long gone.

Tom, NCRS has the records on the dealerships to which the cars were delivered, but they only go back to 1962. Unfortunately, you may be out of luck.

That's what I thought, but wanted to ask anyway. Thanks.

Cool information. I'll have to see if they know where my car was delivered.

Tom, you had me stumped for a few seconds. I realize nobody knows everything, but you would be my go to guy for any question I could ever have!

Thanks again for your expertise, and most importantly, your willingness to share it!

Default Historic document services...NCRS

Pat...You have to be a NCRS member or have a friend that is.

You can find it under SERVICES on the NCRS Forum.

Shipping Data Report Service
The information consists of the dealer code, dealer zone number, dealer name and dealer address (if available) and the date the car was produced. No other information or any types of documents are available.

The good news is this should allow you to find the original dealer where your Corvette was sold and possibly open the door to finding more information about your Corvette. This service is included for no fee with the Award Confirmation Document. A letter containing the information you requested will be mailed to your NCRS address on record. The cost for this service will be $40.00 USD. Pay by Credit Card or PayPal.

Refunds will be processed if none of the above information is available or provided.

Here is what the report looks like...

Its well worth the money....I contacted the dealer in the report in TX and they are still in biz in the same building. Fella's mother used to run the place; we talked for 40 minutes and he sent me the last metal dealer's emblem from that era that had been on his wall for decades.

Its on my license plate frame now

Nope. See post #2. NCRS has no records prior to 1962.

I fully understand that the NCRS does not have records prior to 1962.

But does anyone still have the older records?

Is there any chance that 10 or 20 years from now the missing records will be released, sold or made available to the public?

Or were they burned, shredded, lost in a flood etc ....?

No, No, and No. There was no business reason to compile or keep them, and computers were virtually nonexistent. GM built 25,000 vehicles every DAY; any idea how much PAPER that would have been?

Nice frame Frankie

I found out mine was sold by Hessell Chevrolet in El Segundo - they went out of business many years ago, but were originally located about 10 miles from where the car now sits in my garage. Original and lifelong SoCal car!

I found the license plate frame advertised on eBay by a vintage frame dealer, set me back a pretty penny:

OK, that is a bit disappointing to hear - as I was hoping there was a slim chance that some paperwork existed on my '61 - but thank you for the info !!
