Hello I have a vin 116612 car built date 4 19 7 with a build sheet ident # of 817479

Can a car with vin 116412 be built on 4 21 7 with a ident# of build sheet 818123 after my car build hmmm?

the vin is before my car.

Only NCRS has the ident numbers. And you must pay for the service.

Yes, what you describe is possible. 65-67 Corvettes were built in 2 separate plants. St Louis and AO Smith. VIN numbers and Ident numbers were individually assigned at these locations and not sequential between the two assembly plants.

16412 was built 200 units (about a day and a half) before 16612 - VINs were assigned sequentially (Ident Numbers were NOT). Ident Numbers were assigned when the plant Production Control Department accepted the dealer order, not when the car was actually built 4-6 weeks later.

The VINs AO Smith issued to Corvettes were provided by St Louis. I did not mean to imply they generated there own VINs out of thin air. My answer was an attempt to explain how the build date of a later VIN car could appear to be before an earlier VIN car.

I don't think A O Smith issued VIN's. I think that was done on the St Louis line.

I am sure all bodies got the vin tag once they entered the had trim line at St. Louis that's why the time span from the trim tag and vin tag. John Z wrote a article on this

Yup, and that's why the A O Smith body build date on the trim tag and VIN aprox build date don't line up on Smith cars.

The VIN was unknown until the car came out of the body build/paint area and headed for the hard trim line.

Only NCRS can tell you if that tank sheet goes with that VIN number; nobody else knows (unless they have the original Car Shipper or window sticker), as the VIN never appeared on the '67 tank sheet.
