Default belanger bros headers

I am working on a 62 327 corvette ,, it has a set of belanger brothers try Y headers from the early to mid 60's ,,looking to get some history on these ,, any people running these back in the day, I belive they where built to fit a nhra/ihra drag racing class ...I have to duplicate them but they are cool as hell

I have started a blog on the restoration and will be adding more as I go along www.gmondeperformance.com

I remember them being associated with drag racing back then. Don't believe they were common at all.

They were not as popular/widely used as the "big guys" such as Doug's, Hooker, Kustom, Hedman, and Jardine etc, but I remember their ads from Hot Rod and Car Craft and Popular Hot Rodding from the 1960's. Sort of a niche player like Jere Stahl's Headers.............which were probably the best in the business at the time.

It be be interesting to see the responses.

EDIT: A quick "Google" search brought this up................http://belangerheaders.com/home/default.asp and this http://www.thefoat.com/fa/m-my_blog_...+racing+story/

I made a few calls to belanger bros,, the son runs the business now and does custom headers (vipers,v10,) his dad was the founder and built those headers to fit a class and was alleged to be the first try y design and made more power than the 4 into 1 ,, cool stuff

Per my second link above, the Dad is living in Hawaii as of 2013 and still making headers for "bikes". Maybe son or Dad will do another set for you from the original pipes.

Years ago, I had a special set of headers from Doug Thorley in California from 1970 time period. I later tried to get them to build me another set, but they declined. Those early "tuned" pipes I had sounded awesome on my car above 3500 RPM running thru Thrush mufflers. Awesome sound and performance.

Maybe you will have better luck.

I do custom headers and can duplicate them and making some improvement's, but wanted to see if there was any sets left or in better condition to preserve the nostalgia aria of the car,, it has some other performance parts from the late 60's ,nhra approved aluminum bell housing ,a weber aluminum flywheel

Our local speed shop (Joey Lishin's Motor City Speed Shop) back in the 50's sold Belanger headers - they were popular on Ford flatheads too.

Very nice shop/business. Maybe you could make those old Thorley headers for me??

PS: Unfortunately I sold the car many years ago and the steel in the original headers have likely been "reclaimed" a few times over by now.
