61 Vette - Tach Cable Lube
I've seen the archived threads regarding lubing the tach drive or speedo drive cables with either the Graphite or Cable-Ease but my local Ace Hardware didn't carry the Cable Ease. I do have the graphite oil but was curious if that still the preferred item to use over something like White Lithium grease or is that too 'thin' to use?

Do NOT, do NOT use white lithium....you'll have a congealed, caked-up mess in the cable sheath before long. You can get Kable-Ease online from Amazon delivered to your house in 48 hours if you have Prime...

Frankie - I've ordered from Amazon fairly often but have no idea what 'Prime' is. Thanks for the heads up on White Lithium. Since you've used Cable Ease, how does it differ from the Graphite Oil? Is it a grease?

I have been told Vaseline works well. Only apply from the tachometer or speedometer up 2/3 of the cable. Don't want the lube to work it's way into the tachometer or speedometer mechanism.

I don't know how the two formulations differ - I just know what has worked for me for years

Mattt, Amazon "prime" is the premium service ($99/year) that give you "free" 2-day shipping. I don't use it myself.
I haven't used it myself, but this was being discussed: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dri-Slide-Bike-Aid-4oz-Lube-with-Needle-Nozzle-/381510820859?_trksid=p2141725.m3641.l6368
I believe both are graphite lubricants.. the difference being the 'delivery' mechanism. The Dri-Slide is made to be injected into the cable, run down, and then the liquid evaporates - leaving the graphite.
Nice for lubing a cable "in place", but if you have the cable out of the car, not necessary.

X2 on white lithium grease. The only thing it's good for is coating battery terminals to prevent corrosion. Used anywhere else for a lube, it just sets up into a plaster-like paste and locks up parts.
