Default 64vette 327 mechanical fuel pump conversion

Sick of replacing mechanical fuel pumps (3 in a year). Anyone have a suggestion for a good electric fuel pump conversion?

A proper (read safe) installation of an electric fuel pump is a major hassle, with its own set of problems. I'd go with an Airtex or Carter mechanical pump and move on.

You must be buying some cheesy mechanical pumps....I've only changed one in the last 5 years and that was just to put in one with correct numbers for judging....

Maybe whoever is putting the pump on is having problems?

What has been failing?

IF you were to go with an electric pump the mounting and plumbing is not that difficult. Depending on your carburetor you will need a pressure regulator to avoid over pressuring the needle and seat mechanism. You should also have a low oil pressure cutoff.

I was running a high pressure pump as I was running TPI. I mounted the pump on the rear frame cross bar in front of the rear license plate. I fed the electric pump from the tank with a filter between the tank and the pump. I also had an additional fuel filter between the pump and the factory fuel line at the rear of the car.

As John Z said in order to perform a "safe" installation there is more required than just mounting and wiring up the electric pump.
