[QUOTE=ry57pont;1591501479]An old wrench told me to fill my manual gear box with grease, not gear lube. Thoughts on this? [\QUOTE]
If you'll look at the Lubrication Chart in the front of the GM Chassis Service Manual, that's what it shows for the steering gear.

Now if you are starting from scratch after a box rebuild, many folks are using a synthetic chassis lube for longest/best life. Info on this in the archives.

Am I the only one still having leaks - even with grease?
Not much, but a few (red) drips came out my box a few months after a rebuild.
I used synthetic chassis lube when I refilled the box.
I think the heat from the manifold breaks down even the synthetic grease..
Mine is a '61 - not sure if the box is better insulated on a C2...???

I guess I am the only one...
I am running a NOM SB350 (LT-1, solid lifter, high CR). I see 600+ degrees on the manifold with the IR gun. Maybe more heat than stock?
