Default Installing front springs trick

Ok, first of all, everyone probably knows about this but I just learned it this week and found it slick as hell.

1. Installing front springs with no motor is a bitch, and the spring compressor is a futile effort.
2. I modified a cheap harbor freight racing jack to accept a 1" chain through the base. And made a pocket on the perch to surround the lower castle nut.

Then wound the chain through the holes and up under the upper a arm brace.

Put a dab of chassis grease on the top of the spring and pry bar it into the upper crown

Take up all the slack and jack up the jack. The chain will tighten and compress the spring then attach the upper a arm

Again this maybe old info for everyone but I though it was worth posting

This is the slickest 'tool' to use...

Put spring in place/pocket, jack it up to hold in place...then use on of these...

I also made an extra deep socket to use either with air or ratchet...
I just don't have picture of it...

So does that go where the shock mounts? Is it 1/2-13 rod?

Yep...

Put it in there, use the old rubber from the trans mount to protect paint/powder coat on top, can't remember where/what the large washer is from....use the metal insert from trans mount on bottom...

Always keep the jack snug as you tighten the nuts, just in case so the spring don't go flying around the garage...

Yep, I use althread rod also. Spring compressors are worthless.

Yep, though I prefer using the threaded rod couplers to using just regular nuts (more threads).
Works well.

I would never install/remove a spring without a chain around the center of the spring and pulled tight. If that compressed spring slips and gets away from you, it can kill you. With a chain through the center and your hands clear you'll at least get to clean you pants.
