$50 reward for the first person who can correctly identify these heads
Like the title says, I will give $50 to the first person who can POSITIVELY identify these heads. Here is what I know about them................they are bare aluminum castings.......................they are for a small block Chevy........................the ONLY marking on them is 003 on the end of one head...........................they are hemispherical combustion chambers. Some say they are Mickey Thompson or Leo Lyons castings, another says they are GM prototype castings for the Grand Sport engine program from 1962. I really have no idea but I will give $50 to the first person who can provide undeniable proof of whose castings they are.
Thanks,
Rex

I agree Derek, they look similar to Ardun heads, but last time I checked, Ford heads wouldn't bolt to a small block Chevy.

I wish they were Keith. Supposedly GM made only 5 sets of these for the Z/28 Trans AM Camaro racers.

I just like this old "odd ball" stuff.
More odd / NEAT stuff to come in a few days.
Thanks,

Very similar chambers to Ardun Ford heads. The machined ends and water jacketing looks similar as well.
The chamber design looks to be pre-50's, as most post WW2 designs share the polysphere influence from the reverse engineering of aircraft engines and the experience that the mechanics returned with on what was developed as the engines evolved.
The unfinished machine work, no plugs in a few chambers, leave me to think they were mock up castings.
No matching intake?
Good door stop or bookend material in a mancave.

I was in Rick Hendricks Museum last March and he had a small block Chevy engine with hemi heads on display. I do not remember much more and we were not allowed to take pictures. I think there was some mention of NASCAR in the write up. Please let us know what you find out.
After reading Keith's Hot Rod article, I think that was the car I saw in Mr. H's museum.

Chevy Engineering experimental castings typically have cast-in "O-dash" casting numbers - those must be aftermarket/non-GM castings.

Checking in to see if I won!
Ok where did I leave off?
Ok when I mentioned Ardun, I was not talking about their Ford units, but the even rarer Small block Chevy units! To research these, I probably should look up who used to work at Ardun and went to Chevrolet or elsewhere.
A hemi head was tried by a few like Smokey even, the Donovan guys etc. These could be Donovan heads! They had a small block Chevy unit that evolved from the Ardun design!
PS Rex, if I am right, you know to keep the money!!! Remember!!!!!!
