Default Sell a Corvette in Great Britain or EU

I am looking at selling my Road race 64 FI car. It is a West Coast car thats has competed many years at Monterey, Sonoma and Coronado. Since it is as raced in the 60s and is a Rochester Injected car there has been some interest expressed by folks from Great Britain and France. It could be FIA compliant. I have never sold a car into another country. Has anyone had any experience with this. Things like duty, taxes and shipping costs are just unknown to me. Any help or thought are appreciated. Jerry

Why would you need to deal with all that? Since you're selling it in the US, the buyer should have to deal with shipping it to the UK and handle any UK import requirements.

Seems like if I'm interested in selling I should know what a buyer will need to deal with do I'm informed during any negotiations . I'll be advertising on a UK website so terms are UK terms.

A person needs to do they're own due diligence. For them to rely on you would be naive on their part. It may be helpful to them for you to guide them but ultimately it's up to them to get all their ducks in a row.

I sold an E-type Jag last year that went back to England. It was painless from my end, buyer did the wire transfer, my bank advised me when the funds were secure for release of the car and title. Buyer arranged pickup at my location, the car then went to a NJ port and was loaded in container for trip across the pond.

Schumacher handled all of the logistics for buyer, and I actually mailed the title to them as well. It is amazing to me that transport to Europe is actually cheaper than what we pay for a coast to coast move. Surprisingly, I never heard another word from the buyer, heck, it may be in the bottom of the Atlantic for all I know.

I've bought cars in the US and shipped them to Europe, and I've bought cars in Europe and shipped them to the US.

Duties, taxes and shipping costs are the buyer's problem, not yours. Negotiate a price and let the buyer worry about the rest.

Yes...
All you do is make sure the money is in your account, and open the garage for the shipper to get it.

The rest is on the buyer to secure.

I know, I am a buyer.

I think the OP is saying that if he knows a buyer will have to spend $2,500-$3,000 (an example only) to ship/import a car that he might adjust the price to ease the pain if its the right buyer at a competitive price. Seems perfectly logical to me...

California is not too bad as far as shipping goes (to Europe anyway)

Its the mid west that is the most expensive believe it or not. I've been getting quotes on shipping recently, and its because the midwest has to truck em to a coast first, then on the boat trip. Boat trip costs seems to be similar for East/West... its that trucking around part that adds the money on.

I know on the east coast here that one popular overseas seller of classic cars will only ship out of Charleston; he says it works out to about 1/2 what Tamp/Miami shipping costs are, even considering the extra ground transportation to SC....pays to shop around...

Correct.

I just imported an LT-1 I bought from a seller in New York.

I couldn't get to see the car so I arranged with the shipping Co. to inspect for me with their ESCROW service. I paid the shipper for their services and the cost of the car and once inspected they wired the funds to the seller.

The seller did as mentioned make a small gesture on the cost of the car as he understood I had a lot of additional fees to complete the deal.

Pretty painless process but the shipping part of the deal left a very sour taste..
