Default 66 heater control ****

I have new benzels for the radio and heater controls. The radio **** has allen set screws to keep the **** in place and the heater fan control uses a small flat blade screw driver to release. However, I find that the defroster has neither. How do I remove the defroster ****? As always, advanced thanks for your help.

Isn't it threaded because it is a push/pull action?

Yes it is a threaded **** and threaded cable end. Just unscrew.

Thanks again, the benzel has been changed and looks like new. Threaded was the only logical answer, unless a previous owner had done something weird, it happens. I had tried to unscrew the ****, but didn't turn it 50 years, most likely never been off, hard enough.

Did you hold the shaft with a tool while (trying to) unscrew the **** ? There's a flat on each side of the shaft just forward of the ****. A 5/32 nds wrench [better still, a small adjustable wrench] will hold the shaft. I measure .150" between the flats.
