Default hood release broke

Under the hood main hood release cable snapped off at the end. What is the best way to fix. Can you get just a cable or have to buy the whole assembly. How does the hood release pull handle in the car attach to the cable? Never had to replace cables before so I am a bit confused. thanks

Are you talking about the cable that attaches the left and right female hood latch. Or the one on the dash you pull to open the hood

It is the one that pulls from inside handle

That cable is pressed into the handle. You can probably go to a local hard ware store and get parts to add length. Or buy a assembly

Your fix may be related to what year car you have. I think there are differences. Most handles and the spring steel wire are one piece. The wire is crimped into the handle. Dennis

Default Repair

You can have a piece of piano wire (same gauge) brazed on.

I would grind some flats on the ends to give more of a lap joint, rather than a purely butt joint.

I saw this done successfully on a '57 pull cable.
