Default 1962 right side rear view mirror?

Was a right (passenger) side rear view mirror standard, optional, or not available in 1962? I see some 62s with them, but are these after-market or what?

Not factory. The ones you see have been added.

Probably a dealer added it for an option for a customer. My father-in-law used to install west coast mirrors on trucks during his high school years for a small town dealership.

You're getting good and correct information. 1962 Corvettes were not delivered with right-side rear view mirrors, but the dealer would be happy to install one for you. There may even be a template available to the dealers to show where & how to mount it - I've seen such information for other cars of the same time period.

I have one on my '61. It's simply an original left side mirror with the base flipped 180. Due to the A-pillar location on these cars, it's of almost no use at all. If mine didn't already have one, I wouldn't install one.

You could go to your parts department and order a shaver for your C1
ACCESSORY

You could also get a original accessory outside R/S mirror this is the Mirror for ALL C1's Corvettes having the dark glass NCRS looks for on the L/S mirror and now there being repro'ed but wrong.

It was a dealer installed accessory and also available over the parts counter. I have an NOS right hand Guide Y-50 in the Guide box that I bought at Carlisle years ago and never used. The base has the mounting screw hole on the inside (passenger side) of the base. I'm sure it was used on other GM vehicles of that era too.

Indeed. I've pulled lots of Y-50 mirrors off junque yardde Buicks and Cadillacs of the era.

There are differences in the contours of the bases between Corvette Y-50 mirrors and Y-50s for other models owing to the different door shapes on which they mount.

I would say the rarest accessory for ALL C1's is the locking gas cap shown here that looks the same as a car locking gas cap BUT only the Corvette cap fits a Corvette and only car fits a car / the bottom design is different!
