Default Not quite a Corvette.....

Now that the '62 is just about complete, it's time for the next project.

As the title says, "not quite a Corvette" but it will have the heart of one!

That's going to be one sweet Nomad.

Have you picked out the color yet?

What brand are the wheels? What size wheel and tire do you have on the front?

Very cool!
I'm waaay behind you on my '55, which is just going to be a budget gasser. Have to finish my '57 and do my '63 before this gets anymore attention, though.

Hey Terry,

I'm leaning towards black. I hate the upkeep of black, but it does look incredible when it's clean, at least for the first 5 minutes or so. LOL!

The wheels are Team III wheels. 15" x 10" on the back and 15" x 6" on the front.

The tires are MT 12.5" on the back and I think they are 8" on the front.

Hello Rich,

The most important thing is......that '55 is sitting in your garage!

Looks like it will be a fun project when you're able to get to it.

Nice A friend of mine here on the Cape just did a 56 Nomad. 383 stroker. He added a modern chassis and AC. Heck of a car. He took it on the Hot Rod Power Tour last year and is going again this year. Good luck with your project. They are great looking cars.

The 1955 is THE tri-five, IMO. A 1955 Bel Air was the very first car model I ever built was at age 5, in 1966. The kit came with two options: stock or drag. I cut the rear fenders, installed the Moon tank up front, left the bumpers off and installed the pie-crust slicks. Painted it bright orange. 55 is an unbeatable year...congrats, guys!

Hello Sam,

I found a true (JE code) '67 427 435hp motor that had been sitting in a boat.

Also found an original '67 intake manifold with all three original carbs.

Cannot wait till I get to hear this motor run!

I will be using a Richmond 5 speed transmission.

The front suspension are tubular "A" arms with a pair of dropped spindles

The rear is a 9" Ford with 323? gears. The leaf springs have been placed in line with the frame via frame pockets.

I will be running QA1's all the way around.

Pat

Wow, that's gonna haul *** Pat. We'll be waiting for the video of that badboy running. I'm doing a little heart surgery I hope, this summer on my 56 ragtop. The old 265pp has never been out of the car, so it's passing an embarrassing amount of blowby out the road tube.
I'll be putting in a newer 350 and a 700R4 to get rid of the cast iron powerglide. Keep the original setup in mothballs.....

Great looking '56 Robbie!

The newer 350 and 700R4 will probably make that feel like a new car.

Looks like it's black in color. Is that correct? How do you like the upkeep on the color?

Also, I wish I knew how to post videos!! For some reason whenever I try, it seems to never work out.

I have one of the Vette running that gives you an idea of what's under the hood. It sounds great! I just with I could share it with you guys.

I think most guys post it to Utube first and then it's easy to transfer it to here.
I've owned black vehicles all my life.....that 56 for closing in on fifty years! So I'm used to it.....always hand washed and garaged so it's no harder than any other color to me.

This is so cool - as a resident of South Florida - clear opposite end of the country from where you reside, I too have my trusty 64 red corvette AND a 55 Nomad.

Please tell me if you have or will have a build thread on the trifive forum because I want to follow it !!

Here is a picture of mine - known as Bruiser on the trifive forum.

Beautiful Nomad!! Plus you have the red '64....that's great!

Crazy how the old Chevy's call our names. LOL!

Still need a '69 Z-28, '70-'71 Z-28, '67 Chevelle SS 396, '70-'71 Nova SS 396, '69 El Camino SS 396.......Oh yea, a '69-'72 Chevy Stepside 4WD.

And a BIG BARN to store them all in!

Pat

I'll have to look into the Trifive forum.

It's interesting how many of us have a Corvette and a Tri-Five. Here's my two.

Did anyone else notice what appear to be custom re-shaped (squared-off top) rear wheel openings on the OP's '55? AIR the first-year Nomads were exclusive with their ROUND (radiused) ones, more like pjtsk's gasser.

You made 'em match the front fenders, subtle and kool!
