That block number is a Chevrolet 235 ci 6 cylinder, used in years 1953 to 1955.

Your particular block was cast on January 12, 1953.

The "481" casting number was used in early to mid 53 production. Somewhere along the line, by later 53, they changed to the "911" casting number. Don't have my books handy so I can't give you the car VIN number when the changeover occured.

The 53 Corvettes used a LAY prefix.
