Yes, it would help him a little. It's often forgotten that a lot of Federal workers prior to about 20 years ago were more blue collar and administrative and were not high salaried and thus may have a reliable pension - but not an especially comfortable one. Not sure of the number of blue collar workers in the Government now but I know administrative type positions have all but disappeared.
I forgot to add that my memory of an article on HR 711 in last month's NARFE mag indicated that by some maneuver it was considered revenue neutral that also helped it's chances of passage. This is from memory and I'm not 100% sure of it.
My brother worked 35 years at NNSY (Norfolk Naval Shipyard) and squeaks by on less than my SS each month...hard worker but not so good at 'climbing the ladder'.
He is just shy of 40 quarters for SS but figures it wouldn't be worth it to finish them out (he is CSRS) because of the WEP.
This would help guys like him a lot

It seems like everyone complains about this economy that has just been muddling along for 7 years but I would much rather have it this way than run away growth and then have it come to a screeching halt. I know I'm not making what I did 20 years ago but that's partly due to my age and generally slowing down. I put 3 kids through college and they are all making a lot of money. At least they don't need my money.

And plenty of kids running around. Social security now another big government welfare program. That is our government "benefit".
Yes, your local SS office can help but be ready for some culture shock. I went to the one up in Ocala because Orlando stays so slammed. Probably 35-40 folks in the waiting area. I swear to you 90% of the people in there were under 55 and speaking Spanish.
I don't have a clue what that demographic represented

Are we talking about a company here or the US economy? Companies come and go. The US will always be here. If you can't have faith in your country then you might as well leave for somewhere you believe is better. Or you can just bury your head in the sand.

"it is not going to be easy for our Grandchildren."
No it won't be, but they are the ones writing their own ticket as they are the ones who are voting for the progressives and the left liberals.

My wife just started taking hers @ 62, I'm 61 but my financial advisor recommends waiting (If I don't need it) till age 70 where I'll get 32 percent more.
If anything happens, I can always start withdrawing.
