Default Door lock cylinders

Any tips or tricks for putting retainers on door lock cylinders on a 66. Having trouble keeping cylinder and rubber gasket in place while trying to drive the retainer on. Retainer very tight. Thank you for any help.

Hi, sounds silly, but some jobs require 4 hands....

Someone pushing on outside while you put retainer on

If you're talking about the U-shaped flat steel clips there is no 'silver bullet'.
I start the edge under the door lock cylinder and using a brake spoon or other such tool push forward on the clip. It sometimes helps to push the concave part of the clip towards the door with your other hand to make it a bit flatter while you push...

Nasteve - I believe the reason you're running into difficulty driving on the inside clips is due to those gaskets. If I remember correctly, they were never used by the factory.

AS mentioned...there are no rubber gaskets...BUT...if I may....why are you dealing with the door lock cylinders? And the reason I am asking is IF you are re-installing them after a paint job...that MAY be part of your 'Retainer very tight' issue also.

I missed the part about the gaskets - yeah toss 'em and the clip will go on easier...
