Default Uni-Points?

Hey Fellas, I'm pulling out my 'new' electronic points replacement' [crane] because I don't like it..

Haven't bought a set of points is quite a while.

What is the consensus on unipoints? Echlin has CS791---$25

Or CS786/RR175 Points and condenser $36

Also since I have your ear..do you like to shim the endplay on the shaft tight or loose? I'll bet mine is .030+

One guy tells me that is good nuff ...another tells me it should be under .010...

Dist is out so I might as well make it right... TYT

I prefer the separate points/condensor personally. No particular reason other than the uni-point seem a bit harder to adjust and fiddly to install IMO...

5 to 10 thousands drive gear end play works well. As far as points read the following

Check Rock Auto and look for the better grade points from Standard Auto Products. They have made quality ignition parts for years.

Uniset points are to be avoided. The condenser likes to come unscrewed, causing issues. I recommend separate points and condenser. Been using NOS Delco stuff myself....most new stuff is inferior, especially the condensers.

Many folks have reported problems with the Unisets, mostly failure when operating. Perhaps due to higher rpm use and lack of a heavy duty version being available? I would not use them in a high perforance application/engine.

That said, I do have a set in the 350 sbc in my 73 Jag XJ6. No problems there, but that car never sees anything above 4000 rpm.
