Default CB rear axle in 1965 coupe

A friend of mine has a 3.36 post rear marked CB and dated 3/26/64 for sale. Would any such rear have made it into a early 1965 car produced in mid September of 1964. My car was built Sept.16,1964 and has a 3.36 posi rear but it is a replacement rear coded OM which I have been told is from 1978.if the CB rear was a possibility I would consider purchasing it from my friend. Your opinions are appreciated. Duke

Things could get sloppy in mass production at St. Louis, so it's POSSIBLE but unlikely IMO. Plant veteran JohnZ might have a more authoritative opinion.

The "CB" code was not used during the 65 model year. For 65, a 3:36 posi would have "AM" for small block cars and "AU" for the big block cars. A 3:36 non-posi would be "AK".

I know that technically that the correct 3.36 posi rear for 65 is AM. I was asking if it was possible that in early production 65 that some leftover CB rears might have been used.

Internally the 63-64 rear, are different than the 65-79 rears. The 65-79 posi units were made by Eaton, while the 63-64 posi used a weaker Dana unit.

While anything is possible, the chances that a "CB" code 64 Dana rear could end up in a 65, are extremely slim. Especially one with a case cast 6 months earlier.
