63 convertible project - what is it worth
Yes, this is a rough project, not for the faint of heart. But is does have some good points.
63 convertible bare body; pieced together from two separate bodies. Front end is banged up, and the 65-66 big block hood is just the outer shell.
The car does not have a trim tag, and the 1963 VIN tag has been riveted in place. The original spot welds are still visible
OK, now the good news. The chassis appears to have been restored sometime in the past. The frame is a nice solid black, and the rear end assembly appears to have been worked on.
Birdcage also appears to be solid.
The engine in the car is a 1964 327 250hp automatic in a passenger car (engine code S) and a powerglide transmission.
Other parts that are with the car include a later model mid year dash and instrument cluster, a deck lid, rear valence panel, rocker trim moldings, a hardtop, parts of headlights assemblies (may all be there). Also saw the vent windows and frames, a gas tank, and some interior panels behind the seats.
Also has a reproduction 63-64 hood.
I think there is also a convertible top, and maybe (but have yet to locate then) a set of doors.
I have not located a pair of seats.
OK, assuming everything as described (except doors and seats, since I haven't seen those yet), what is the thing worth?

Buy a car you can drive home. You will be money ahead by a long shot.
That hack job how someone spliced the car together is a good indication on there skill set and that's not very high.
I could see a real world value if the tittle is clean and clear to be in the mid teens.

I agree you would be money ahead to buy a complete car, but this is what it is. The question is: what is is worth?
I will continue the search for more parts.

Better start looking for parts that are not reproduced. Becouse what I see there is junk and not useable

Worth at least $5K in parts + value of chassis (not enough pics to judge).
My question is why did you or the person that sent you the pictures block out he '62 sitting next to it? Is it for sale?

I'm generally with Ken. I would say more than $5k, less than $10k. If there was money to made parting it out it would be so tedious I wouldn't be interested for the meat left on the bone- if any.

Whats up with the vin tag being removed and pop riveted back on??
Hello
Its not worth much to me....Here is another 1963 vin tag that has been altered.. Vin tags were spot welded on NOT riveted on like this one.. Looks like to me someone did this on purpose. If this car hasn't seen the road since the 70's...I have a feeling this car might have a shady past...If you register it you might not like the police taking your car away..
My advice...Walk away from it....You might be opening up a can of legal worms you don't want to open...

OK, I am not buying this car, I am helping the owner sell it.
The VIN has already been checked and comes back clean (no legal issues). The VIN tag fell off of the car back in the day (spot welds came loose) and it was riveted back in place using whatever rivets the owner had at that time.
I do not know if the VIN tag matches the frame. That is one of the things to be confirmed.
The trim tag was removed when the car was considered a "total loss". No insurance companies have been involved in this.
The late husband of the owner collected old Corvettes and Chevys over a 40 year period. I have been assisting the owner dispose of his collection slowly of the past 5 years.
We started with 60 plus cars, we are now down to less than 10. It has been a tough job.
I haven't even scratched the surface of the pile of parts to be searched.
Anyway, that is what the owner has.

$5k would be the max I would go on that parts car. If I owned it I would part it out and scrap what was leftover.

Yep, that tiny piece of cove molding said '62.
Easiest way to move it is lay out all parts, take pics of everything and post on ebay, no reserve. highest bidder will tell you for sure how much its worth. I'd say $6-10K (closer to $10K if you have doors and top frame)
I'd wait for cooler weather before I tackle that attic full of treasure.
my $.03

Car is not for sale "right now". We need to identify what parts the owner has.
And this car is on the back burner while I locate the parts for the 53 Corvette.
Stay tuned, it will be available soon, and the price will be reasonable. The owner is not trying to squeeze every last dollar from the cars / parts.
Car is located in north Alabama.

Advanced
I have a 63 driver quality convertible and 5k is about right for this car, when you consider what work would have to go into it, and what it would be worth when you are done.

The vin tag is worthless. You can't title it. There's no vin on it, just the beginning designating a 63.
