Default Recommended tire & wheel size

1964 convertible, drum breaks all around.

I read most of the posts regarding the size of wheels and tires and need some advise. When I got the car it had side pipes. After removing them and installing a new exhaust during restoration I found that the muffler rubs against the rear tires. I measured the wheel and from bead to bead and it's 8" with J 70 X 15 tires (245/70 X 15 according to a cross reference chart). I assume that the wheels & tires are too wide. I want to replace them with the correct size wheel and tire. I know they should be 6" wheels, what about the tire size?

Thanks for your input.

From the past posts:
205/75X15
205/70X15
215/70X15
On my 64 I am going to go with with 205/75X15 the next time I replace.

I have 205/75-15's on my 65. The rims are 15x6.

Default ANOTHER 64 tire size query

Hello,
I'm sorry to jump on this thread, and so late, but appreciate your help for my almost stock '64 roadster.

I've read a number of threads here and visited the tirerack chart. All the tires they recommend are 205/75R15.

I've read some things here about people putting 17s on their C2s.

I have a '64 with rear fender flares, stock front fenders, standard suspension and drum brakes. The existing rally wheels look absolutely tiny in the fender wells.

I have a set of Centerline wheels with old 255/60R15s on them. I like the wheels and need to replace the tires, but assume 255 is too wide and will rip out the stock front fender wells?

If they are too wide, am I able to put a narrower tire or lower profile tire on them (don't currently have access to rim size, so if that's a factor I will understand non-responses)

I'd appreciate any help, THANK YOU!

Wish I could help....but haven't a clue on your situation.
I went with the Diamond Backs 205/75R15.
