Default 1964 Carter AFB question

This is the accelerator side of my carb. The lever that pivots to the accelerator pump is severely worn. If I hold pressure on the pivot point I get much better accelerator response. Is this a worn pivot screw? or lever? or both?

I'm not sure what you are asking; are you saying the hole that the standard slot screw goes in on the pump lever is wallowed out?

Have you adjusted the pump linkage properly ?

I CAN tell you this...you have the nylon bushing on the carburetor plate where the accelerator rod goes in backwards. You want that nylon outer flange underneath the hook on the spring interior side for smooth, no-hang-up operation

Also I think you will
Find that the S clip is on backwards and that makes a difference I'm told. When looking from the front of the car back toward the rear the clip makes a typical forward S not a reversed S

I could be wrong I just saw Frankie's photo

Right - I've heard that from several places but if you look at many AFBs and some freshly rebuild examples the "S" clip is in every which way. Here is what the "Carburetor Shop" says on the topic:

Based on your description and the pics I think my s clip is correct. They look the same to me???

After removing it the hole looks fine but the screw is pretty worn. . It looks like I need a new screw. Not sure where to find that.

I have a few 'junker' AFBs laying around. If you're sure its the screw you can PM me your address and I'll stick a screw in an envelope via snail mail...

Or you can google "Chuck Smith carburetors" and call them; I've bought small bits from them before...

I think the linkage between the pump arm and the accel. pump is backwards and that's what wore out the linkage.

I've been wrong before.

I still see a normal S when looking from the front. Or maybe it's a 5. Haha.. either way it looks right. Maybe I'm losing it.

Will fix that bushing. I thought I went over this long ago but that would be gone from my memory. Thanks again.
