Default Wheel / Tire question for a '66

I'm about to pull the pin on a purchase of a '66 small block. Once I do the first thing I'll be changing out is wheels and tires. Like others on here I'm a fan of Ame Racing Trq Thrust, In my case the AR105M, 17x7, Anthracite / w machined lip.

I'm assuming a 4" backspacing is the way to go and would 225/50-17 be the biggest tire to fit without issues ?

So, has anyone used this combination ?

I have not, but I have 16x8 wheels with 4 1/2" backspacing with 245/50-16 tires. Your wheels will be 1/4" narrower on the inside and outside, so you should be great. I have minimal clearance on the outside (but I also have wider tires than you will choose)

If you search, I believe you will find that there are a number of people with your exact combination. I think 235 wide tires have been a popular choice.
