Default 53 vs 54 hoods - what is the difference?

I always thought they were the same. Found out this AM that there are some differences.

Now can someone educate me on what the differences actually are between a 1953 hood and a 1954 hood. What do the judges look for?

Inquiring minds.....

The 53 hood and 54 hood are different - in that the 54 hood has an extra area molded into the frame for the hood pop ups - 53 and early 54's do not have this molded in - rather it used a screwed in "puck" for the hood pop up to pop up against

Early 54's also used the "hockey puck" hood.

My old 54, #659 had a hockey puck hood.

That's very late for a hockey puck hood in a 54.

Here's one on EBAY with the later molded in hood pop up stops.

How very strange, Dan.

#3300 has the later style:

However, #3300 does have one cloth door, FWIW.

Who knows, could of been changed out. It doesn't look like it ever had any severe front end damage, but it is 60+ years old.
It's funny, you can actually see the X brace through the top of the hood. It doesn't show up in a photo, but you can see a big X on the hood. It's not over sanded or thin fiberglass....,
