Is the wave dead?
Had my '67 out for a drive today. On a stretch of deserted two-lane road, had a C7 approaching from the other direction, so I waved. No response from him - the young looking guy gave me a look like why are you waving at me?
I still get waves from old guys in older Corvettes but don't know about the new breed?

If it does not have chrome bumpers, it is not a Corvette. Therefore, I do not wave.

Sorry to say I think that todays Corvette buyers that buy the C5 - C7 Corvettes must think they are to good to wave at us C1 & C2 guys. Maybe they think because there cars are 60 and 70 + K that they are to cool to wave at other Vettes, well I got news for them that the C1 & C2 Vettes are cooler and bring as much and sometimes more $$$$ they there C 5 - C7 Cars bring. so therefore they are not that cool. You will see more people on the street and at local car shows make over the C1 & C2 Cars more so they they do over any other Corvettes on the road and that may pizz off the new Vette owners so they don't wave to or respond to us C1 & C2 guys. That is the only thing I can think of. I know I was at the Bloomington Gold Event this weekend in Indianapolis at the 500 track and I never saw one Vette wave to another. sorry to say.

I wave to all Corvettes and give a thumbs up to any old car I see. Most people in Covettes wave back. I also get waves from some people in newer non-Corvette cars.
When my wife drives her C6 she'll wave to anyone.

I wave to all Corvettes, but often the owners of the newer ones don't wave back. I also wave to the drivers of any classic cars and trucks I pass. I think we all value the vehicles of our youth and we are trying to preserve and enjoy them.

If I my free hand isn't busy texting, I wave at any corvette, and most any classic cars I see. Some wave back, some don't. If not I don't give it a thought. I know most others are working their phones too or are otherwise distracted.

I don't know about the wave being dead, but I wish the whining posts about it would die.

Life is way too short to worry about whether a stranger waved at me or not. Truly.
I wave every time conditions allow, but never get bent out of shape if someone doesn't.
I accept the fact, too, that some newer Corvette owners may not even recognize my car- strange as it sounds to those of us eaten up with the old ones.

My understanding of "the wave" is that it originated in the early 1950's (before the Corvette), and was used almost exclusively by owners of MG's, Jaguar's, Alfa's and other import sports cars. When the Corvette came along it was quickly adopted by Vette owners. When I bought my first Corvette, a '61, almost all other Corvettes you passed on the road would wave, but not the foreign jobs! Today, my '67 roadster gets waves from some collector cars, some but not all Vettes and even motorcycles! It seems that today "the wave" is used as a recognition of something special in the other lane.

Well I started in a C5 and I'm not sure how I learned the wave but as soon as I figured it out I couldn't wait to pass other vettes. I find that if you drive a red/white C1 even the Harley guys wave. Heck, I even wave to the C4's ) Usually even if it's not a vette, but an old car I will wave.

I'm in the "wave at any Vette/classic car" crowd. If they don't respond, so be it. I drive the miles and get the smiles! Dennis

I think that's a load of [EDITED], personally. c7 guys don't wave because they just don't know any better. When I got my c5 back in 2000, I wondered for a few weeks why the hell everyone was waving at me, then after I figured it out, started waving back. I'm sure I pizzed off some curmudgeonly old geezer in a c1 or c2. I saw the same thing happen when the c6 came out -- lots of new drivers never waved, now they do. Now when I drive in my '67, I notice the same thing-- look of shock and surprise when I wave to a c7 driver.
Also, keep in mind -- and this is the same with ANY new generation vette-- the new drivers aren't necessarily "vette" people. They may have gotten it for a variety of reasons, being a hard-core vette fan may not be one of them.
And by the way, I actually tend to see the lack of waving far more when I'm driving my c5 than when I drive my midyear... I think the cool factor of the '67 just makes people want to wave. The c5 just hasn't achieved that "classic" feel to it, yet. (oh, and I have no how much you paid for your vette, but with all the restoration, original purchase price, etc., I don't know anyone in my area that has a c2 that cost less than a new c7... even a z06 )
Anyway, let the new generation sink in, you'll get your waves back.
