Default Distracted drivers abound

It's scary on the road!
I almost got hit by a red Ford 150 who decided to make a right on red without looking. How can you miss seeing a 67 coupe?

I hit the brakes and skidded sideways and, somehow, managed to miss the curb. He crossed two lanes in making his right on red. I think that squeal of my tires got his attention. That and the car in the closer lane honking at him.

Then, about 6 blocks later, a guy in a Popemobile Fiat ran right up on my rear. Almost touching! It’s very disconcerting out there. I’m always worried about young girls, texting on their phones, hitting me. Today, it was two guys just not paying attention. My 67 will be 50 years old on January 11, 2017. It has never been hit. Ever. Looks like I need to get some flashing, blinking lights and paste them all over the car along with one of those orange flags on a pole that used to go on bikes when I was a kid. Be careful out there!

I am right there with you. I decided after making it 49 years without any body damage, it was time to park it. I told my wife last October I was taking it for a final drive, took this picture, and put it in the garage.

Now to find a less pristine 63 or 67 I can actually use!

The other day, my wife picked me up from work. Normally, I drive, so I don't get to observe the other drivers, but what I saw going up the 5 Freeway in San Diego was deeply disturbing...way too many people still texting while driving, eating, picking their noses, etc. The damage to your Vette would be bad enough, but these folks are putting other people's (and their own) lives in jeopardy...be careful out there!

The texting is out of control. It's a real crapshoot driving on any secondary road. I was in my 65 today and a 20 something girl in an SUV came around the corner completely on my side of the road. I was able to get the car off the road. Lucky there wasn't a curb or a tree. Wasn't sure I was getting out of this one. They say that texting is worse than drunk driving. They will drive the length of a football field at 45 mph without looking up. When they get to the apex of a curve, they just keep going straight, right into the opposite lane. It's frustrating when you're driving a car you've had for a very long time and put a lot of sweat into.

I said something to a young girl (about 17) who was texting and almost hit me and she looked at me like I was nuts and gave the the finger. If I could have got away with it I would have got out of my truck and smacked her in her face to get her attention and to let her know I was PISSED. it would be my luck a cop would come by at the time and put me in jail for smacking a dumb *** snot nose girl who should have her license taken away. Hell she would probably drive anyway without a license.

I just feel lucky that nothing happened! It's just getting so dangerous out there. All they have to do is use GPS in order to disable functions of phones from working while moving. Cell phone lobby is too strong for that to happen though. I'm just so lucky that I managed to not get hit. I need a flux capacitor so that I can travel to 1986 and have anti lock brakes though. Those skinny tires lock up and have no bite but saved me today.

Went to a WAWA to fuel my 67 two weeks ago and as I pulled in to the parking lot a girl backed out of her parking space without even looking. I slammed the brakes and quickly backed up and another person leaned on their horn to try and get her attention but she kept coming out. Very close call for my 67 and to put it nicely I was VERY mad.

She backed out and drove around the lot still texting like nothing ever happened.

I'm probably the last person on earth to ask for more gov't regulation but I would support technology and legislation to disable phone texting when the vehicle is moving.

I wouldn't be as harsh on phone calling since there could be emergency situations where a phone call is necessary. Also hands-free calling is fairly common whereas hands free texting is not.

What's nearly as scary as teenagers texting while driving is seeing drivers of 18-wheelers texting.

Prayers and superstition abound before a drive.

Over the yellow line is more and more common....then there are the kamaikazis who make turns across the lane in front of you.

I've got the tailgaters covered. Drive with one eye in the rearview especially when coming to a stop..if I have to come to a complete stop, I nurse it. Always watching the guy behind. Pull over often to let tailgaters pass.

Used to be fun to drive, now it is a chore.

The abuse of cell phones while driving runs the whole gamut from simply frustrating - such as the numbskull in front of you sitting there after the light has changed because he or she is texting - to downright lethal, such as the potential disasters that have nearly befallen some of the members above. Thank goodness none of you were hurt, or your Corvettes damaged.

Unfortunately that isn't always the outcome. Newspapers are full of obituaries every day of motorists murdered by these idiots who just can't put their cell phones down while they drive. It has to stop, but at the very, very least - please don't be part of the problem!

I thought this was a Little Rock regional specialty. I've seen people do a full boogie lane change (if you can call it that) right across 3 lanes of heavy traffic to an exit, all in one swerve. And the biggest interstate we have, has only 3 lanes each way.

Hey Diablo - car looks nice - glad your getting to drive it. Watch out for the squirrely drivers.

Insure it right and enjoy it
Left mine in a garage for a yr, rat got up on a shelf knocked a can of spray paint off the shelf made a nice chip.
May as well get some use out of it

These are just cars, easily fixed or replaced.

The texting thing is bad though

Make mine loud and stinky usually gets their attention

LED tail lights are one of the best things you can for your car safety wise.

It,s getting to the point where the traffic lights need to have a loud bell ring when they turn green. Everyone is just sitting there looking at their phones. I am getting to old for this I guess.
