What mileage do you get?
Hello Fellow Corvetteers!
I just came back from the longest trip I've yet taken in my '67 coupe - 600 miles of mostly highway driving. The trip included some around town driving and one (yes, only one) full throttle run down an 1/8th mile long drag strip!
I'm running a stock 300hp small block, running a 3.36 rear.
Mileage worked out to be 17 mpg. I think that's pretty good, as this was not exactly an 'economy run'. I mostly drove 70-80 mph on the freeway, and threw in a couple of short full throttle blasts here and there when I figured Smokey wasn't watching .
Is this the mileage I should expect from my setup? I'm thinking I could squeeze even better mileage from the car if I kept my speed below 65 mph and kept the gas pedal off the floorboard.
So, what kind of gas mileage do you routinely get in your car? Are big blocks considerably heavier on gas consumption?
Or is this just another one of those legends we envious small-block owners like to spread about?

Gas mileage in a Vette? Who cares! Actually, I checked my '66 L79 before and after I installed my 5 speed Trans just out of curiosity. I was getting around 15 mpg before and about 17 after the swap. However, the after mpg was on a 300 mile run through the rockies at elevations between 6000 and 9500 feet.

Drifting
I get 16 around town, and 18 to a best of 20 on the highway.
Big block. 3:70 rear. Tremec 5 speed.
I have enough torque that I rarely have to downshift out of 5th, and any rpm over 2300 in fifth is usually over the speed limit.

I used to get around 12-13 around town with my L79 and 3.70 gears. I was in it hard as often as I could so wasn't surprised by those numbers. Now with my 500+hp 406 and Keisler 5 speed I seem to be getting around 17 mpg.

L-79 Roadster m-20 w 3:36. 11 around town 15-16 on highway
Same with 3:70. 12 around town 14-15 highway
Less around town with 3:36 because I leave it in 2 & 3 more

327/300/3.55 rear, bored .030. Recent 300 mile trip at average 65mph, I got 19mpg. I was pleased with that. Dave

My 1962 327/300 HP 4-speed (all stock including the Carter AFB carb) gets right around 15-16 mpg pretty much no matter how I drive it.

I keep a fuel use log in mine for some reason. Haven't checked it in awhile but it usually was around 8 mpg due to short drives, local drives, 4.11 gears and less than fuel efficiently built motor.

'62 with (tuned) Ram Jet 350, T-56 6 speed, 3.08 rear. About 30mpg strictly interstate driving @65-75mph, 25 mpg around town. Drove to Carlisle last year (420 miles each way), mostly interstate driving, drove from motel to fairgrounds two days (about 20 miles each way) and averaged 29.7 mpg for the entire trip.

The engine that was in the 62 when I bought it in 2003 was L48 350 with solids and 4-speed it would manage 17 highway. Added a 5-speed in 2005, it jumped to 27 highway. In 2012 installed a ZZ4, mileage was 25 highway with with same Holley 650 spread bore. In 2013 changed to 650 QF square bore, Saturday checked the mileage to and from Du Quoins Street Machine Nations, coming home drove about an hour in the rain averaged 21mpg.
