If you tell the CF when you last had it, where you last titled it, might help. Dennis

Good luck with your search.

Looked like a sweet car! Any chance you would have the vin number? More information you can provide, the better luck you would have finding it.

Well, sorry to say...I contacted the PA DOT, issuing ins Co. (at the time), and selling chev dealer (Grabiak chev in New Alexandria, Pa) without any results. It is simply too long ago. There was a ray of hope from Nationwide Ins. They said if only I had the policy number. I owned the car in Johnstown, Pa.

Hey alcoed, Just a long-shot, but we lived down the road from you in Windber. My cousin had a 59 (not sure when he purchased it), but I remember him telling me about the restoration he did on it. He doesn't own it anymore, but I will ask who he bought it from. Oh ya, he lived down the hill from us in a tiny own called Scalp Level. PM me,and I will tell you more.

It could have ended up ANYWHERE. A lot of older Vettes have gone overseas - Europe, Australia, you name it. My first wife's '58, which she sold in about 1971 here in western NY, is now titled somewhere in the state of Washington.

Ever since Al Gore invented the internet, the field of potential buyers is no longer limited to the local newspaper or those who drive by the house.

Yes. My '61 will soon be tooling around the streets of Germany somewhere.

Nice pic in the first post, but without a VIN, you may never get any info. If you're that interested and want to spend a few bucks then Billy Gould of auto ancestry can help (google him)...

Very familiar with Windber and Scalp Level. Wasn't the hang-out Jolly Roger in Scalp Level. Burned a lot of rubber on #56. What was the name of the other burger drive-in just up the road? Remember Uncle Herb and Aunt Rita? It is hard to say where the car is now..it was really fast and a lot of time has gone by for it to make tracks!!

You may not believe this but...I was just a kid out of high school, pumping gas and learning the auto repair trade with not a lot of cash. I asked a salesperson at a local high vol vette dealer to call me if a 'fixer-upper ever came in. He did, this one. All the seat pleats separated, blowing a lot, and I do mean a lot of blue oil tail pipe smoke. Prev owner drove awhile with broken piston rings. They wanted 750.00 I offered 500 and got it. Bought a case of oil to drive it home. After new seat skins and a re-bored engine, it was quite a treasure. Trouble is...we don't realize what we have at the time.

If you ever find the VIN, the first place to check would be the C1 registry - http://www.c1registry.com/

Is the "Alco" in your screen name for American Locomotive Company? I traveled many miles on some of their products.

Yes, very keen! When I was about 10 or 11, I hung around the RR yards and was invited to hop aboard an PRR Alco fa # 9626 Loco. this 2 unit diesel was a helper pusher from Conemaugh to Gallizen PA. quite an experience for anyone, esp when you are allowed to operate the locomotive on the way back!

ALCO (the American Locomotive Company) also built high-end luxury cars (such as they were in the late brass era); the owner of Hannaford Chrysler-Plymouth in Hudson, Ohio in 1957 when I was a teenager had a beautifully restored 1920's-something ALCO 4-door phaeton touring car. Still remember the dark blue with beige & yellow pinstriping and the varnished artillery wheels.

And John Z is right - it's not a name we usually associate with old cars but Alco DID build them.
