Default 1963 Firewall Holes: What goes there?

While installing a new engine wire harness and replacing some grommets, came across a couple of unknown, what appear to be factory holes on the firewall. One by the ballast resistor and one near the speedo cable. 1963 4 speed car.

Can anybody please help me out with what I'm missing?
Thanks!

They might be for rubber plugs that hold the firewall insulation in place. You can see one of the plugs in the bottom of your first pic. Look from the inside and see if there is a hole in the insulation that lines up with the hole in the firewall. Or, the hole could be for something else.

Thank you Ken; that's a great thought.

My original May 63 car has a fat plug in there (first pic you provided) as shown...

Thanks Frankie and Morley. Looks like a rubber insulation plug as Ken suggested. I'm thinking the hole by the speedo cable must be the same thing as it's about the same size.
I appreciate your help, and the pics.
I've got the body off and on the dolly, so I'm finding more out then I want to at the moment:-) I've got a July built car, and the frame was badly rotted. She be back together mid August. I appreciate your help!

Nice project - I don't know how correct you're trying to be but that master cylinder with the flip up bail is a '64...

Good catch Frankie. My original is on the shelf; needs a sleeve. the '64 was the path of least financial resistance. I'm getting check writing fatigue.
