with 00fxd concerning a DeWitt's radiator, fan and shroud.

Call Tom (he's the owner), tell him what you have ie, year, motor, etc. He will steer you in the right direction. Without a doubt, my top choice!

Gary

I bought and installed the DeWitts aluminium replacement for my L79 Coupe. the engine is enhanced slightly and dynoed at 320Hp at rear wheels, engine runs dead in middle of where it should hot or cold.
Dewitts have my vote

Dewitt's Dewitt's Dewitt's!!! Have one on my 600+ horse 69, and a restoration radiator on my 62. Top notch is all I can say.

It's always nice when people fill out their profile. DeWitts..there is no substitute.

Dewitts all the way.

I run the LS3 engine (which runs a bit hotter than the small block) and have never had an issue with cooling using the Dewitt set up along with a Spahl electric fan.

BTW - their customer service is outstanding!!!

Good luck!

I would install a DeWitts reproduction radiator with the fan and fan shroud and special radiator seals used for the factory AC cars. That should probably do it.

I would NOT automatically go to electric fans from the start......although many have done this and it will work.

Also agree with Scott Marzahl ...........if you want good advice from this group, at least fill out your profile so we have some information to go on.

Another vote for DeWitts. However, if you want some entertainment, search the C3 Tech section for the multiple threads on aluminum radiators and the "passionate" opinion found there. (some have been edited, though )

My goal when I wanted a new radiator was to get something that I wouldn't have to worry about. I have put in the Dewitts unit and haven't done a thing since. Great stuff.

DeWitts enjoys a great reputation just about everywhere.

Whether it's one of their NCRS correct Restoration radiators, or their Direct-Fit LSX conversion radiator and Spal fan package, there's nothing better than a DeWitts.

Allow plenty of time if you want the full experience.

Looks like on this thread Dewitt's is unanimous. While I don't have a C-2, I DID put a Dewitt's in our C-4 a few years back. We took a road trip to Texas and Oklahoma, and in 100+ temps and with the AC on max, the temp was right where it was supposed to be.

I've bought several DeWitt's radiators. Hands down, they're the best on the market. I wouldn't consider any others regardless of price.

For the first time since it was new, I can drive in traffic on a hot day with the Dewitt radiator. That is with a stock 435 hp engine and stock fan. I have, however, changed the vacuum can on the distributor to one that provides advance at low rpm.

Others have touched on it but the real answer to the OP’s question is, get the radiator with the highest heat rejection rate, measured in BTU’s per minute.

Original radiators installed in midyear small blocks were a stacked-plate aluminum design with a heat rejection rate of 4600 BTU/min. So, anything less is a step backwards.

The DeWitts Restoration Radiator (Model 942 for ’63-’64; and Model 941 for ’65-’67) is also rated at 4600 BTU/min. I know of no other aftermarket radiator for midyears with this high of a heat rejection rate.

Even DeWitts offers lesser radiators for midyears. They have an aluminum radiator, now called the Pro Series (previously Direct Fit), with a 4100 BTU/min. rating.

Typical copper/brass replacement radiators have about a 3300 BTU rating and seldom provide satisfactory long-term results in a midyear.

The two things that matter most for cooling are heat transfer and air flow. At highway speeds airflow shouldn’t be a problem, but if you do a lot of slow speed driving, you might consider a Spal fan to increase airflow.

The DeWitt Restoration Radiator is also a piece of art.

And thank you, Tom, for continuing to make the very best American made radiator out there. Conformity to originality, quality, fitment and it just flat works great. We as a community of die hard Corvette owners are fortunate to have someone like yourself making such a high grade product. Oh, by the way, there's a DeWitts 941 in my '67 L79, as well

I bought my Dewitts C2 replacement 4 years ago when the car was a 327 and continue to run it now with the LS3. Cooled both engines no problem.

This thread is what happens when a company makes a great product that exceeds everyones expectations, all too rare these days.
