Possibly Selling '63 SWC - value?
I have been entertaining the idea of selling my 1963 SWC. I had someone who really knows Corvettes take a look at it with me and give me an estimated price range. I am looking to sanity check what he said. Below are his notes:
It is a #4 (fair) car
B2 = Second week of October 1962
898A = Saddle Leather (base)
916A = Daytona Blue
568 = Body number
Engine is not original. It is a 3782870 with a date code of K194. Someone stamped it incorrectly and tagged it with RE.
Radiator - 3155316 63B = February 1963
Alternator - 1100628 3D18 = April 18th 1963
Carburetor - 3416S Date = BA3
Airhorn Casting Number - 6158
Main Body Casting Number - 0 - 1552
Distributor cap may be incorrect.
Rocker panel moldings may be incorrect.
Knock off rims appear to be reproductions.
Intake Manifold - 3794129 = 327/340 HP (63 only)
Rear Axle / Carrier Assembly - FB12766 = December 7th 1966 FB = 4:11 ratio (possibly off big block)
Transmission - Bell housing casting number 3858403 = 63 (late) and/or 64 (early). It appears to be a Borg Wagner. We had a hard time with this and there is belief it is not original. There are some date codes from 1981 (?).
Starter - 1109064 8J6 = September 6, 1968
Looking at the car from underneath there was a patch on the rear driver side. Possibly from rear end damage.
Thanks in advance for any insights!
I am not sure how well you will be able to see the damage. It is around the middle of the door down by the rocker panel.

The range I was given was 30k on the low end, 40k on the high end, and 35k being fair. I am trying to get an idea of whether or not this is really a fair price. It might be, but it is only one opinion. Also the guy who looked at it really values originality which isn't the case here because of the drive train being mostly non original. So I feel like he might have been a little harsh.

Maybe I posted in the wrong portion of the forums? If I did i apologize I am looking more for a rough idea of if that is a proper assessment given the notes. If the price range is low I may just hold onto it.

This appears to be a What's it Worth? Thread rather than a sales thread with an asking price. So, I'll move it to the General discussion area so you can get input and determine an asking price.
However, please remember that you cannot sell in the General area, and buying/selling posts will be removed or get the thread closed.

Split window bodies alone are going for $35k and up for restomods. If you have a running driving car it's worth more than your buddy thinks.

You will get a lot of lowball offers. I think low ball in this case would be anything less than $50K.
I think you could sell it pretty easy for greater than $60K.

How did you arrive at it being a #4 car.....I'm not seeing that level of decrepitness but there aren't all that many pictures...? Ripped seat, 64 master cylinder, Hurst shifter, low RPM tach, paint looks a bit motley, non-original motor, 4:11 gear (not the best for cruising), etc., etc. Pretty typical of a well-used driver.
Unless there is frame/birdcage rot.
I don't know what "patch" underneath you are talking about - is it a frame repair or fiberglass fix ?
There are very, very few of these cars that were actually driven that haven't been knocked around a bit, no matter what sellers/owners claim...

Hagerty will give us a starting point. The engine is problematic. Let's call it a #3. even if the engine might turn it into a #4.
#3 - Average sales price was $48,800
#4 - Average sales price was $37,700
If we look at appreciation a #4 car has been flat for a few years now. The #3 cars are slowing appreciating.
Just for comparison a NCRS/Duntov BG car is going for over $120,000. That means if you bought this car for $40,000 and spent $100,000 to restore it you would still be upside down. That may be the reason we're going to see fewer restorations in the coming decades.

I'll bet some elbow grease and $2K-$3K in parts could take that to a #2 car.
I don't think its a #4 car in the first place.
And as I posted earlier, two partial bodied, no drivetrain split windows just sold via an estate rep for $75K in St. Augustine with two full price backup offers.
So, I don't know where Hagerty gets those numbers; I know where they CLAIM they get them...

I would compare what you have to this and price it close to it.
