63 Vette frame Vin help needed
We have our FIL's convertible, but the original vin plate fell off as the previous owner raced it for fun. It has a clean Oklahoma title and has for years since FIL bought it in the 1980s, but he had a cheap replacement vin plate made for it. Since we want to sell it, I posted it here a while back and some folks thought we need more documentation to sell it. It doesn't have the original engine, so...
I called the State of OK and they say I can have a police person come out to the car and find a hidden vin...
then issue a letter to the dmv who will provide an Oklahoma vin.
So when the police some out, where will they look? The person said they will know, but I highly doubt it on a classic car.
Someone said the frame by the back tires would be stamped...
But when I look over the back right tire, there is just a little space between metal...is it in there?
I don't see how to get to it even if the tire is off...this is what I see:

You're close. It's on top of the frame in the same area of your picture but on the drivers side. You might slip a mirror in the gap and see it if you're lucky.

You can use a rag and some WD40 (or something else) to gently clean the accumulated dirt and debris from the frame rail, so that you can read the VIN. However, please DO NOT SAND the numbers!!!! It could destroy them.

That's what I did on our '64, and the numbers were very visible:

With the wheel removed, I held my camera toward the top of the wheel well and shot down on the area where the VIN is stamped. I used the flash and used high resolution on the camera. Cropped the photo afterward.
My camera has a red light to show where it is aimed - that helped make sure I was hitting the right spot.

This pic will show the vin derivative relative to top portion of the left rear frame rail.

It's on the top surface of the frame, directly above the rear shock absorber upper attaching bracket, as shown in the photo above.

Thanks Chuck and all,
Below is the best pic I took after just putting a little water on it.
I guess I'll need to take the wheel off.
OK, so this is going to lose me man points.
**Is there a step by step video of taking off the wheel?
Like where to put a jack...
How to remove the wheel...
I know nothing and don't want to damage it.

Got the back wheel off and the last five of the VIN are a match to the title and the remade VIN plate! I only see the last five numbers but I am pumped. Thanks! Now to get the police over to verify tomorrow.

I buy mine in spray cans. They come with a red plastic "straw" to direct the spray where you want it in hard-to-reach places. If you're going to get into this car game - even for a short time - there are things that will save you time, money, and PITA.
