So true! Please check you rubber gas line, check the fittings/clamps. Make sure hoses etc are a safe distance from direct heat. Get to know your car! Dennis

And upgrade the electrical fuses, per FTF's document. I did mine before I even got mine running.

Total shame, and another reason we should all carry a fire extinguisher with us.

1snake and some other firefighters may know for sure but I bet once that resin takes off and starts burning your chances of putting out the fire with an extinguisher small enough to carry in the cockpit are all over.

For small fires and if you're quick enough they work (ask me how I know)...but at some point you need to worry more about your own safety.

No doubt...an engine fire or a small under dash fire, if you're right on top of it. But if it shorts out when it's parked and nobody is around, it turns into one big mattress fire in a hurry. Just sickening. To have a car survive 55 years against all odds and end up like that sucks.

My Vintage Motorsport column last month dealt with fire extinguishers for your garage. The same material applies of your car.

Most communities offer classes in firefighting. If you're going to buy a fire extinguisher make sure you learn ho to use it on a real fire. You don't want to have to learn on your own car.

My point was that you have to know when to abandon amateur firefighting efforts...some peoples' logic leaves them in a crisis.

Years ago I had to physically restrain a middle-aged woman whose Ford Econoline van was engulfed in flames because she was heading back into the car to retrieve her purse ???

That's what my 62 looked like in '73. Only things I saved were the tail lights and rear bumpers......

when my 62 burned in 79 I was fortunate that the convertible top and the windows were up, the fire snuffed itself out after starting to burn through the firewall...

Ironic that the ad you have to watch on the ABC link has a guy pouring virgin olive oil over an open fire.

My thoughts also.

If you watched the video...it is ODD that the fire is somewhat centralized where the fuel is coming from the tank to the engine...OR ...WORST YET...from the fuel pump to the carb..

I would put a lot of money on the fact that the fuel supply system from the pump to the carburetor was SUB standard.

And yet...what is funny at times is...I get bitch slapped when I comment on what I see in some photos of what people post of their engine compartments...and their POOR fuel delivery system..and then something like this comes along.

I hate it that it happened. Another Corvette taken out of existence...when I BET it could have been avoided.

I CRYING SHAME!!!!!

Yep...the generic plastic or speed shop glass filter, resting on the intake with a rubber line on each end, flapping in the breeze. Often, plumbed backwards to boot. Amazing there aren't more fires.
