Can I use MOBLE 1 instead of DEXOS in a 2012 Tahoe? I like to change my own oil and now that it is out of warranty I thought I would use MOBLE 1. Can DEXOS be bought at other places than the dealer? Thanks in advance.

I just looked at the Mobil1 bottle labels that are on my self in my store and they say it is Dexos approved.
You can buy Mobil1 in any parts store or big box retailer.

I used to live in Alaska, specifically North Pole (which is just south of Fairbanks).
As an experiment, picked up two plastic quarts of 5W-30. One was Mobile 1, one was another major synthetic.
Let both bottles cold soak (it was a balmy -55*F that day) for several hours. Brought both bottles inside and put them in a tray. Tried to pour the non-Mobile 1, no dice. Mobile 1 was still very much a liquid and poured as you would expect. Squeezed the non-Mobile 1 bottle and it came out looking like a candle.
Needless to say, it sold me on Mobile 1.
So, both were the same weight oil, but both had different responses to the same temperature.
I'd be interested to hear from those in the warmer areas of the nation and how Mobil 1 compares there.
That said, I doubt many here would see that sort of cold. Perhaps the less expensive is something that you can run based on where / how you drive.
