Rear Leaf Spring Question?

Rear Leaf Spring Question?
I tried searching, but I'm not sure if I know the terminology to find what I need....
The Nut on the bottom of the long bolt that holds the ends of the Leaf Spring. Tightening this will do what? I kind of put it back approximately where it was before I changed my leaf spring.
Thanks in Advance

Tightening the nut will raise the rear ride height of the car, loosing will be opposite. The factory bolt has a hole for a cotter pin and the nut is usually tightened enough to install the cotter pin. Adjusting the design ride height was never done with this bolt from the factory.

It looks like you have something other than an original type slotted nut and I can't tell about the bolt from your pic. Here's a pic representative of the bolt and nut that came on the car originally.

And poly cushions and large washer upside down, but we're not commenting on any of this because OP did not ask our opinion on any of this. He only wanted to know what tightening the nut would do.

Typically, a new rear spring will cause the rear of the car to sit up higher. Usually it will settle down after 500-1000 miles, but sometimes it will need a little help.
The original bolts were 6" long, but they can be replaced with the 8" bolts used on 84-96 Corvettes, to gain some more adjustment.
