Default Front Spring advise required

Hi everyone - Last year completed a read end overhaul - suspension diff trailing ams bearings - the whole deal - all went well. At this time I am working on the front end same idea - Have it all apart - and my delema is what new springs to use - the rear is a standard weight spring in the front I was considering using the grand Touring springs - a little heavier than stock has anyone used these or can anyone that has experience with fitting new springs chime in. The car is 1965 L79 with stock suspension

What's wrong with the original front springs? What do mean by "standard weight" rear spring? Is the installed spring the original or something else.

If your springs you have now give you the ride height you like. I would keep what you have

The rear spring was toast and needed to be replaced - It was replaced with a Standard rear spring When doing the front End I figured that with upper and lower control arms being done it may be a good |Idea replace the 50 year old springs too. The rear replacement was the standard/stock 9 leaf unit - the stock front springs are 293 lb/in and the grand touring are a little over 400 - ( F41 was about 550 ) |The stock springs will work - I was just wondering if anyone went with the GT springs for improved handling without giving up ride comfort - F41 would be way too stiff for Me

keep it stock unless your going racing. Your shocks and tires help more

I would think you need to match the front to the rear. If you have stock springs in the rear, then I would think stock in the front make sense. If you had changed to a stiffer spring in the rear, then I would expect you would match it to a stiffer spring in the front.

As long as the OE springs are not seriously corroded (look for corrosion "notches") they are okay to reuse, and you can clean them up and paint if you want.

Higher rate front springs will roughen the ride and bias the dynamic response to greater understeer. Is that what you want?

As mentioned, proper shock and tire selection will improve "handling", and rebound adjustable shocks like Spax or QA-1 are the way to go if you want to tune the ride and handling to your driving conditions and preferences.

I went with VBP 460 lb rated front coils on both my 78 and my 63 when I did suspension rebuilds on them. Maintained stock ride heights, cut down on nose dive under hard braking but did not effect general ride quality.

On the 78 I used GM replacement shocks. On the 63 I used SPAX adjustables. I liked the SPAX better.

My experience was good for me. That doesn't mean you would like it.

Thanks guys - I have decided to stick with the stock front springs - keep it the way it came - good enough for cruisin ( with the occasional burnout ) appreciate the input
