Maybe a 'rivnut'...rivet nut will work...

If the riv-nut alternative doesn't work, perhaps you may be able to slid a thin, square, 1/4-20 nut into the slot -- thoroughly gobbed up with some strip calk or other mild adhesive. Perhaps it will stay in position long enough to start the guide pin's phillips screw in threads. Once started, that's all you'll need & the pin die casting can be moved around with the authority provided by the slot for adjustment/alignment. (One-time only solution, of course. The nut will likely be lost like it's predecessor if the pin is removed again)

Alternately, wonder if there's room in the cavity for a U-nut or spring nut with 1/4-20 threads?
