Went for another short cruise just to listen to the new pipes tonight. When going at steady cruise it's easier to carry a conversation than before. When you step on it - not so much - but I really like the low throaty sound produced. Plus, the drone I had before in the 1800 rpm range or any range for that matter is now non-existant.

Here's a before video with a set of old Sweet Thunder 2.5'' GNM sidepipes. They are a little louder with a definite different sound than the Classic Chambered Exhaust pipes.

Wayne I can really hear the difference between the two systems. New one sounds great. Lower full growl. Any seat of the pants feel from the hoped for HP increase? Guess we will know when you get it back on the dyno. Enjoy before the weather gets bad.

Default Pics of Install

Snapped a couple of pictures of what the install looks like. It's pretty tight but it all fit nicely under the covers. There's about 1/8" to 3/16" gap all around. The pipes don't hit the frame but are very close. The install took about 5 hrs. I like his work. He made sure everything went right and took the time to line it all up.

Once winter sets in - probably any time now - I will have them ceramic coated.

Went for another drive tonight. Am really impressed with the sound. It's a low growl that the videos can't do justice. The 3'' int. dia. gives it a rich sound. At cruise speeds it's very quiet for a big pipe.

I had the same 2.5's...they sounded just like yours and the drone was horrible...the 3" pipes you have now sound SOOOOOOOO much better AND I like the look of the 3 pipes...the exhaust flow has to be better

I also had a similar conversation with Eric about doing a custom set with a different resonator design to see if we could eliminate the drone...looks like you have hit on a winning setup. Hopefully Eric keeps that design available.

Cheers,

Frank

Frank, the same design would be available for the asking. I also have had requests for 2" core VettePacks to reduce decibels & have formally added them to the line. Feedback is very positive - they are much quieter than the 2.25" & 2.5" versions, & the sound is described as a "tight" sound & really a great tone.

Crunch527, thanks for the comments. They do sound much better than old ones.
Again thanks to Eric at Classic for custom building some real nice exhaust pipes.

Donny, I have a short video I made the other day of it idling:

It's too late this year to take it to the track but in the spring I'll have it back on the dyno to see what kind of increase if any at all in HP. Then off to the track to see some real world results.
Hope I'm not disappointed but I'm sure to gain some HP.
Duke's thread about stock sidepipes is quite true vs 2.5'' under car exhaust.

Donny:

Mine are 3" inners...VettePacks. This is both thru the mufflers and with open headers:

If it's a race car, you don't need no stinkin' covers IMO.

Your right about the torque dropping off after 5000 rpms. I'm sure a little head work could go a long way here.

I'm also interested in your front bracket and how it's attached. Do you have a pic?

Just like you, I had a custom set of sidepipe headers built. The guy who built them does great work - they're stepped starting at 1 7/8" for the first 10-12" and then up to 2" and filter down into a nice 3 1/2" collector.

Ceramic coated.
Excuse the messy work bench.
I'll look for that dyno sheet - it's somewhere with all my papers - I'm a messy book-keeper too.

Wayne

Wayne,

I would sure like to get my hands on exact duplicates of your headers!
